Spring is officially here so it’s time to throw off your heavy winter donna and flannelette sheets in favour of lighter bedding in soft textures and breezy colours. We’re excited to launch our new Bed by Temple & Webster range featuring beautiful 100% linen quilt cover sets in fresh colours with classic design details. If you’re not already in the mood for a summer bedroom refresh, here are 5 reasons to fall in love with linen this season.
1. It’s classic and on-trend at the same time.
Linen has been used for thousands of years, but it’s a trend that has stood the test of time in terms of both style and durability. It represents the effortless, aspirational luxury we all aspire to have in our homes. It’s a look that is timeless in its appeal, but also one that is on trend with the emergence of more modern colours and design details. This season neutrals and calming coastal combinations are on trend for a calming sleep space.
2. It will last for years.
Linen is a natural fibre derived from the flax plant. It has long, stable fibres which give linen fabric serious lasting power. As a result, linen has the perfect combination of attributes – it’s light, breathable, strong (twice as strong as cotton) and durable. Because flax requires less water to grow, linen is also naturally eco-friendly and (as long as it’s pure) it’s biodegradable too. Though linen isn’t always cheap, there are now some great budget-friendly options available (including our new Bed by T&W range!) which will stay in your linen cupboard for years to come.
3. The more you use it, the better it gets.
Linen doesn’t require any special treatment. The more you use it and wash it, the softer and more tactile it gets! Wash in warm water and add a tablespoon of vinegar occasionally to maintain softness. The linen look works best when it’s casual and relaxed, so pull your bedding straight off the washing line and pop straight onto the bed for best results – no ironing required and no hospital corners!
4. It’s lightweight and cool for spring and summer.
Linen is favoured for its unique thermal properties – it will keep you cool in summer and warm in winter – but really comes into its own in the warmer months. Due to its loose weave, linen is very breathable and its soft, lightweight feel make it the perfect choice for a summer bed. The fabric is moisture-wicking so is ideal on those unbearably hot nights and is naturally hypoallergenic, so perfect for the asthmatics and allergy sufferers among us!
5. It suits any bedroom style.
One of the best features of linen bedding is its versatility – no matter what your interiors style is, you’ll find a set to suit your scheme. Block colours in breezy summer hues like white and on-trend chambray are easy additions to any classic bedroom, or if you prefer something different, try a fresh take on summer pinstripes, perfect to mix and match with your existing bedding. The addition of beautiful design details like frayed edging and classic tie-sides connect the linen look to this summer’s texture trend, so regardless of your style there’s a linen bed out there for you!
