We’re giving autumn a warm welcome with a nod to some of our favourite modern farmhouse-style spaces. A little bit of country with warm rustic timber and neutral linen, a hint of industrial black metal in furniture and lighting, and textured surfaces like painted brick and shiplap panelling. Once you’ve got the look down with our Modern Farmhouse collection, all you need to do is kick back and relax as you binge-watch Fixer Upper and watch Chip and Joanna makeover Waco, Texas one ranch at a time.

Cosy not cliched
As in Jono’s home, the living space at Braebrook in Kangaroo Valley NSW teams modern furniture shapes and fabrics with classic country style. Add raw timber, weatherboard and you have the ideal weekender. Image via Homelife.

Table talk

A farmhouse table has to be big enough to accommodate a crowd for long, leisurely weekend breakfasts and relaxed evenings by the fire, like this refined California-cool take via Pinterest/Ciao Newport Beach.

Higher ground
Every farmhouse needs a cosy attic retreat. This one’s styled as a study with modern seating and a built-in day-bed, and a warm wood-panelled ceiling.
