Lead with layers
One of the quickest and easiest ways to bring a cosy, cool-weather feel to your space is by adding layers with chunky throws and thick, luxurious hides. As long as they are in similar tones, any pieces will work. In the bedroom we’ve chosen a blesbok hide and soft white frayed edge T&W bedlinen. In the living room, we draped a soft sheepskin over the couch and used this white sheepskin to give this rattan chair a more warm and autumnal feel.
Cane, rattan and timber pieces that featured in the warmer months can still work into autumn – the key is to give your more coastal-style furniture pieces a different spin with accessories as the seasons change. Our Malawi Chair and Rattan Bar Stools help give the room its coastal feel and these rattan pendant lights will add lovely warm, filtered light which is great when creating a comfortable atmosphere on cooler evenings. The warm tones in the timber of the Tropica Woody Coffee Table mirror the warm tones we’ve added in the décor. In the bedroom, we’ve used this white washed room divider as a bed head, which fits beautifully with the coastal boho style year-round, but can easily be updated for cooler weather with cosy bedding and throws.
Layering really is the key to achieving a balanced cool-weather-coastal look. This isn’t limited to throws and hides on your sofa, it also applies to the floor, where layering rugs is a great way to create depth and update the look of your room while working with pieces you already have. We’ve taken this natural jute rug and layered it with a softer more warm-toned rug in the living room and a textured indigo rug in the bedroom for two different but equally beautiful looks. The texture, softness, and luxe accents in the feature rugs are perfectly framed by the jutes, giving a luxurious and plush feel to the whole space.
Adding accents in more autumn-friendly colours is the perfect way to bring summer-themed pieces and winter layers together to create a cohesive space. Beautiful soft furnishings like the Anya Water cushion, Jakobbi cushion and Lisso Copper cushion are a great place to start as they offer detail, plenty of texture and a touch of gold for that luxe feel. Try incorporating mirrored and metallic pieces like the gold mirrored Tansu Console we chose for the bedroom, or the Plutorattan Round Mirror in the living room. Add depth with black accents, the Plasma Side Table is a great choice as it adds contrast but isn’t too big or overwhelming.
